Detailed Map of the 2009 Philadelphia Marathon

many people have been asking for the full size map of the Philadelphia Marathon.

This map shows where all the water and gel stations are.

Porta Johns are available at the start/finish and all water stations.

Here is a 4mb jpg:

Start at 22nd and Ben Franklin Parkway
Head South to Arch Street where you will be making a left (Love Park)
East on Arch St. until 4th where you will be making another left.
North on 4th to Race Street. turn right :)

There will be a bit of a hill while you get over the highways.
now we’re going to turn right on Columbus blvd and go all the way up to Washington Ave.
Turn Right on Washington, than make another quick right up Front St.

Front Street will take you down to South St. (watch out for hippies)
make a left on South and zip on over to 6th.
Hang a right on 6th and go past Washington Park – This is where I’ll be having my first drink around mile 5.
If I’m keeping my nice slow pace this should be around 7:45/7:50 for me.

continue on 6th to Chestnut. Make a left.
You’re going to be on Chestnut for a while, but that’s OK.
It’s flat until you reach 23rd, but even then the hills aren’t bad.

Once we turn on 34th the real fun begins. You’re going to be going uphill for a while, nice part about that is you’ll also get to do some nice downhills.

The zoo area gets a little funky – follow the signs and the crowds, you’ll be fine.
Welcome to Fairmont Park. Lot’s of green grass, trees, and HILLS

The streets change names a bit around here, I’m not going to mention them all at this time, but just know that you’ll be reaching more porta potties and a drink station out front of the Please Touch Museum.

Once you get under the bridge you make a right on West River Drive. Luckily it will be chilly out because there is no shade at all. this is a long straight portion of the trip with a nice view of the river and Kelly drive (you’ll get to know Kelly Dr a lot). you can also see the finish line.

Sadly for you this isn’t your finish line, this is the finish line for the people doing the 1/2 marathon.
Yes, that is correct. We are only halfway done our stroll through the park.

if you are running with me it will be around 9:15 when we pass the Art Museum for the first time.

Now is where the real fun begins!

Lemon Hill – Da Da Daaaa

once you get through this big guy you’ll be mostly flat again.

And it really is a nice view. grab some water at mile 15.5 and enjoy it.

You are going to be on Kelly drive for a long time. All the way to Manyunk.

Around Mile 18 we’re going be near route 1. there are gel packs here. I’ll be doing one of those.

Then turn around and come back. Remember mile 18 with the gel pack – same spot, mile 22, another gel pack

Hope you saved some energy for the hills around the Art Museum.

Now wasn’t that easy?????

yeah-i-can-do-that
